Ciao, my dear strangers!

It’s the first of the month, which means it’s time to round up my favourite photos of the previous month and present them to you. I had a really tough time picking just ten, since I’ve visited Tuscany, gone on day trips and took 40+ scenic strolls during May. Still, somehow I managed to do it. My apologies for showing you pics you may have already seen in one of the previous posts, but our trip to Italy was a major part of our life in May and the majority of the following pictures were taken there.

So, without further ado, I present to you Top 10 Favourite Photos I’ve taken during May. 🙂

1

This one was taken in Florence and depicts part of the stunning architecture of the Florence Cathedral. Standing next to it, I couldn’t help but feel very small, knowing that this was here long before I was born and will remain here long after I’m gone. It’s breathtaking, awe-inspiring and maybe even a bit menacing-looking.

This beautiful olive garden can be found near the very top of the hill behind San Gimignano. Just follow the cobble-stoned path from the market up and you’re there. I don’t know exactly why this scene has managed to grasp me so much. Maybe it was the peaceful atmosphere, maybe it was the weather, a noticeable lack of tourists or a lady sitting there and playing the harp. I really don’t know. It’s probably the combination of all these elements. Reasons and logic aside, I just remember my brief time in this garden as one of the highlights of our trip.

3

Pisa baptistery. Great weather, a beautiful day, green grass and amazing details on the architecture. Enough said.

4

San Gimignano again. Only this time it isn’t a remote little olive garden, but the very heart of the village. Looking up as you’re approaching the centre, this is what you see. Ancient buildings, cute windows, lots of people and one of its numerous towers. Once again, I’m not exactly sure why this particular picture found its way into my heart. It must be just my psyche, connecting events and feelings with it and making it even more beautiful in my eyes.

5

This is by far my favourite photo of the entire trip – Tuscan scenery. Cities and villages are great, make no mistake. But, there’s just something raw and powerful and primal about the sheer greatness of nature. Nothing quite beats it. I especially love that these two birds decided to be a part of it and contribute to the overall beauty of this photograph.

6

Clouds. So many clouds.

7

Now, I’m normally not the kind of person that would go around, taking pictures of flowers. But, this one was calling to me. I heard its tiny, high-pitched voice calling me and followed it to the bushes. Perfectly normal behaviour. When flowers call, you answer. And, naturally, I have no idea what it’s called.

8

Tourism is often an ungrateful branch of work. Humans can quit and find another job, but sadly, horses cannot. There he was, standing in the sweltering heat, being photographed and touched for the millionth time, when I’m sure all he/she/it wanted to do was get away and be left alone. Sadly, these horses will probably remain in the business for the rest of their lives or, at least, until they’re no longer able to take it physically. And, on top of everything else, they’ve got pigeons sneaking around, trying to steal some of their food.

9

Another cloud (yeah, yeah, I know, I have a problem). Anyway, the second I noticed this cloud, I immediately thought – Bambi! And, it really does look a bit like a fawn, sitting down, its hooves safely tucked away. It even has a tail, a head and the first hints of antlers. Maybe even a gas cloud behind its butt. Happens after eating too much grass.

10

I call this one “The pond of eternal youth”. A fountain in the middle of a green area, with a kid trying to… Well, I don’t really know what he was trying to do. I wanted to ask him, but was kind of in a hurry. Another case of a photo capturing your heart without you realising why.

Well, that’s it for May. Hope you enjoyed.

Ciao, my dear strangers 🙂
